Four and a Half Years Later, TEMPEST Is Finished as a Group
YH Entertainment says the six-member K-pop boy band will stop working together. Hyuk enlists on October 26, Lew's contract ends November 1, and four members stay on for solo work.
The K-pop boy group TEMPEST is ending its group activities, its agency YH Entertainment announced on October 20, 2026, as one member prepares to enlist and another prepares to leave the company. [1]
YH said it reached the decision after discussions with the members and will now focus on their individual activities. [1] The statement thanked fans and asked for their continued support. [1]
It is a short announcement with a long calendar attached. Hyuk is scheduled to enlist on October 26, six days after the news. [1] Lew's exclusive contract with YH is due to end on November 1, twelve days after it. [1]
The other four members, Hanbin, Hyeongseop, Eunchan and Taerae, will remain with YH for individual activities. [1] The statement names no solo projects and gives no timetable. [1]
Six days and twelve days
YH said there will be no separate official event on the day Hyuk enlists, and it asked fans not to go to the enlistment site. [1] Enlistment in South Korea means military service, which most able-bodied men there must complete, and it is the point at which many idol groups find their schedules no longer fit together.
The statement does not say why Lew is leaving or what he plans to do. [1] Nor does it say whether all six members wanted the group to end. It describes only discussions, with no member-by-member account. [1]
So the group's future is split three ways: one man to the army, one out of the building, four staying behind to work alone.
A group that never lost its footing, and never quite found it
TEMPEST debuted on March 2, 2022, with seven members. [3] Hwarang left in 2024, so the group that has now been wound down was a six-member one. [3]
It did not go unrewarded. According to a public reference history, which is not an audited record, the 2023 song Vroom Vroom won on Korean music shows twice, including once on Music Bank. [3] The single album Into the Tempest is listed with 163,043 copies sold in Korea. [3]
The numbers afterward are smaller. The same reference lists Korean sales of 56,384 for the 2025 EP Re: Full of Youth and 59,935 for As I Am. [3] Both reached No. 8 on the chart, a respectable peak. [3] Each of the two EPs sold roughly a third of what Into the Tempest did, though a single album and an EP are not a like-for-like comparison.
That is a group that got onto the board, won on television, held a place near the top ten, and then did not grow. Whether that was the reason for the decision is not something YH has said.
What military service does to a group
A group's schedule depends on all of its members being present. When one of them leaves for service, the others either wait or carry on short-handed.
The Korea Times reported this year, in an account of the mixed-gender group KARD's disbandment, that J.Seph's military service froze KARD's activities for 22 months from 2020. [2] KARD is a different group with a different history, and nothing in that report speaks to TEMPEST's finances or contracts. It does show what a single enlistment can do to a group's momentum.
TEMPEST was already without one founding member. With Hyuk gone for service and Lew's contract ending days later, the group would have had four members available at most, and no announced plan for them to work together.
What the members walk away with
This is the part nobody has said. YH has not disclosed the members' earnings, their contract lengths beyond Lew's end date, their revenue shares or any costs still owed. Beyond the chart positions and music-show wins, nothing public shows what each of the six takes from four and a half years of work.
It is also not known what happens to the TEMPEST name, its recordings or the right to perform together again. YH says it will support the four members who stay, but it has not said what that support consists of. [1]
The next facts are dated. Hyuk is due to enlist on October 26, and Lew's contract is due to end on November 1. [1] After that, the first sign of what "individual activities" means will be whether YH or any of the four remaining members names a project.
