Six die in a Kharkiv park as Russian drones kill 14 across Ukraine
Ukrainian authorities reported 71 people injured during a day of attacks involving drones and missiles. Six people died in a park in Kharkiv region, while strikes also caused power outages across 12 regions.
Russian attacks killed at least 14 people across Ukraine over the past day, Ukrainian authorities said, including six in a park where children were among the dead.
Regional authorities reported 71 people injured across the country. The toll accompanied an overnight aerial assault in which Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 165 Shahed-type and other drones on October 20. The national casualty count covers attacks with different weapons, rather than deaths and injuries attributed solely to those drones.
The park strike hit Nova Vodolaha, in the northeastern Kharkiv region. A one-year-old girl died at the scene and her mother later died in hospital, according to the Kyiv Independent. The Guardian said seven children were among 14 people injured there.
The attacks also reached energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Ukraine's grid operator, Ukrenergo, said strikes had caused power outages in 12 regions, adding electricity disruption to a day of deaths and injuries across several parts of the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the Nova Vodolaha attack an "absolute atrocity" and urged allies to provide more air defences.
The casualty and strike accounts come from Ukrainian officials and have not been independently verified. Accounts also differ over the number of children killed in the park: the Kyiv Independent reported two, while the Guardian reported three. No Russian response to these specific attacks was provided in either account.
