Report: Russian drone kills 13 on Dnipro railway platform
Ukrainian officials say a jet-powered drone hit a platform beside a train bound for Zaporizhzhia. The railway operator said people were still on the platform despite an air-raid warning and a heightened-danger alert.
A Russian drone struck a railway platform in Dnipro on October 29, killing 13 people where trains were waiting, according to Ukrainian officials and the state railway operator.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said 13 deaths had been confirmed, following the same toll from Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha. The number of wounded rose to 13 in Kyiv Post's latest update, making 26 people reported killed or injured. The casualty count is developing.
Ukrainian Railways said a jet-powered drone hit the occupied platform where train No. 866, running from Dnipro to Zaporizhzhia, was standing. Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov described the attack as a strike on a civilian train and said many people had been killed and wounded.
The railway operator said people remained on the platform despite both an air-raid warning and a heightened-danger alert. Its chief, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, said a significant number of people were there when the attack happened, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
People waiting at stations face the same threat that has forced changes to travel aboard trains. The railway has introduced strict procedures during air-raid alerts amid a broader Russian campaign against rail infrastructure, including evacuating passengers from trains, according to The Kyiv Independent.
